The Pond Life Aquatics Weekly Stock Update: September 19th

Welcome back to another weekly stock update from Pond Life Aquatics and Tropical Fish London!

This week, we've had some truly fantastic new arrivals across the store, and we're excited to share some of the standout species with you. From stunning South American beauties to some truly unique Asian imports, there's something for everyone, whether you're a seasoned aquarist or just starting out.

Let's dive in!

South American Stock Highlights

Our fish room is organised by continent to help our customers understand where their fish are from. This week, our South American sections have a huge variety of new stock.

Livebearers:

We've brought in a large new variety of livebearers , including some really nice  Swordtails (Xiphophorus hellerii). These lively fish thrive in community tanks of 60 liters (15 gallons) or more, with temperatures between 24-26°C (75-79°F).

Tetras:

We have a new group of Emperor Tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri), which are a personal favourite. They do best in a minimum tank size of 60 liters (15 gallons), with water temperatures ranging from 23-27°C (73-81°F).

Hatchetfish:

We got a top-up of both Marble Hatchets (Carnegiella strigata) and Giant Hatchets (Gasteropelecus sternicla). Remember that hatchets are top-dwelling species and are proficient jumpers, so a solid lid is essential to keep them from jumping out of the tank. They need at least 75 liters (20 gallons) with temperatures from 23-28°C (73-82°F).

Apistogramma panduro (Apistogramma panduro): We have some absolutely stunning Apistos. Like other dwarf cichlids, they enjoy heavy vegetation and lots of places to hide  in a tank of 60 liters (15 gallons) or more, with temperatures between 24-28°C (75-82°F).

Hard Water Discus (Symphysodon spp.): The most exciting new arrival is a truly stunning group of hard water-bred Discus. Their colors are absolutely beautiful, and we don't expect them to stay in stock for long. While they prefer temperatures between 26-30°C (79-86°F), these particular fish are accustomed to our harder London water. They will need a tank of at least 200 liters (55 gallons) to thrive.

New Arrivals from Asia

We also have some exciting new stock in the Asian section of our shop.

Rasboras: We got in some new Harlequin Rasboras (Trigonostigma heteromorpha), including both the regular variety and some Longfin Harlequins. They're a great choice for tanks of 40 liters (10 gallons) or more with temperatures from 22-26°C (72-79°F). We also received a fresh restock of our

Red Faced Emerald Danio (Danio albolineatus). These are another great schooling fish that do well in 40 liters (10 gallons) with temperatures between 22-27°C (72-81°F).

Loaches:

We have some new and interesting Hillstream Loaches (Sewellia lineolata). They are a fascinating species that require strong water flow and high oxygen, and prefer cooler temperatures between 18-24°C (64-75°F) in a tank of at least 75 liters (20 gallons).

Gouramis:

We also have some new Pearl Gouramis (Trichopodus leerii) in stock. These peaceful fish prefer a tank of at least 75 liters (20 gallons) and temperatures from 24-28°C (75-82°F).

Barbs:

We have some new Torpedo Barbs (Puntius denisonii), which are a bread-and-butter species for us. Due to their size and activity level, they need a tank of at least 250 liters (65 gallons) with temperatures between 15-25°C (59-77°F).

Orandas (Carassius auratus):

Our goldfish are looking great, and we still have those beautiful Red Cap Orandas in stock, along with some slightly rarer Panda Orandas. These fancy goldfish need a tank of at least 120 liters (30 gallons) with temperatures from 18-24°C (64-75°F).

Bettas (Betta splendens):

We're looking really good on Betta stock this week with a new Dumbo Platinum male, Halfmoons, and Koi Plakats. Bettas do best at temperatures between 24-27°C (75-81°F).

Shrimp:

We have a great selection of NeoCaridina shrimp (Neocaridina davidi), including blues, whites, oranges, and yellows. These hardy shrimp do well in tanks of at least 20 liters (5 gallons) with temperatures from 18-26°C (64-79°F). Unfortunately, we couldn't get true Red Cherry shrimp, but we might be bringing some from our breeding tanks at home to the shop.

What's Coming Up at Pond Life Aquatics?

As always, we've got more exciting things in the works. We are doing a tank giveaway on our Instagram which you can find here.

Medaka Ricefish (Oryzias latipes) from one of the UK's best breeders, so be sure to look out for them. These extremely hardy fish can thrive in tanks as small as 20 liters (5 gallons) with a wide temperature range of 16-28°C (61-82°F).

Thank you for reading and for all the new people who have visited the store recently. We love chatting with you and learning from you. This is the best hobby in the world, and it only gets better!
