The Aphyosemion Australe, also known as the Lyretail Killifish, is found in two distinct color variations: "gold," which is the cultivated form pictured above, and "chocolate," which is the wild strain. This peaceful species is best kept in a small softwater aquarium with bogwood and plants. We highly recommend using peat filtration. Other small, peaceful community fish, such as pencilfish, Corydoras species, Kuhli loaches, and Croaking/Sparkling Gouramis, can coexist with this species, as long as their requirements are similar. To mimic their natural habitat, the aquarium should have gentle water movement and surface cover from floating plants. As they are skilled jumpers, it is important to have tight-fitting coverslides on the aquarium.
