Maintain these territorial cichlids in a well-maintained hardwater aquarium with ample rockwork. This colonial species benefits from larger fry that aid in protecting their younger siblings.
The Daffodil Cichlid is found in southern Lake Tanganyika and prefers shallow, sediment-rich rocky areas. When breeding, they form pairs and can be kept in a 4ft aquarium with proper filtration and coral sand substrate. They can be aggressive and should be kept with similar sized and tempered fish. However, if they breed, they may become territorial and need to be moved to their own tank. They require clean water and regular partial water changes.
