Discus are amongst the most striking and sought after aquarium fish in the hobby. Although they are popular, they have higher care requirements than most tropical fish, so are not recommended for beginner fishkeepers.
To care for discus, maintain a consistent water temperature of 85-86°F and a pH of 6.8-7.6.
For optimal care, we recommend a 250 litre aquarium or larger for Discus fish. Smaller tanks may result in more frequent water changes and heightened metabolism, leading to a need for more food and increased waste. While it is possible to keep a single Discus, they are naturally schooling fish and thrive in a larger group. To ensure harmony, we suggest purchasing 10-12 juveniles of similar size to grow together in a 75-gallon tank. As they mature, any aggressive males can be rehomed.
For a suitable environment, consider using plants that can withstand high temperatures and adding air stones for oxygen levels.
