Forktail Rainbowfish are commonly found in slow-moving streams in lowland tropical rainforests with dense vegetation. As part of the Pseudomugilidae family, they make great additions to small and medium planted aquariums, alongside other peaceful species or in a shoal of their own.
To recreate their natural habitat, it is recommended to have a mature tank with plenty of vegetation, including floating plants and driftwood. A dark background and substrate can enhance the vibrant colors of these active fish. It is important to have efficient filtration and well-oxygenated water, although the flow should not be too strong.
Keeping them in groups of 10 or more, with a ratio of one or two females to every male, will reduce stress and create a more dynamic display. These male fish will often compete for female attention, but no harm should come from their sparring.
