The Red Fin Shark is typically found in rivers and flood-prone streams, though it has become scarce in the wild due to pollution and habitat destruction. However, it has remained a popular aquarium fish for many years.
This species can be aggressive and territorial, so it is best to keep them alone or in a large, well-decorated tank with similar barb species. For a more natural environment, add rocky caves, bogwood, and live plants for hiding places. These fish coexist well with other species like danios, rainbow fish, and tetras. Though their name may suggest otherwise, they are not predatory and are known to ignore smaller tankmates. Interestingly, they may appear paler in pet store tanks but will darken to a deep black once comfortable in a home aquarium. There may even be an albino variety available.
